Physical Description

Syrians are usually between 5” and 6” long, although of course they can be a little smaller or larger than this, with the females being the larger of the genders.

Syrians are frequently referred to as the ‘golden hamster’, as this is both their wild colouring and one featured frequently in pet shops. This type, along with several others, have colouring on their top two thirds, with a white tummy.

Umbrous – This is a layer of greyish fur over the top of the hamsters original coat, darkening the colour.

Rex – These hamsters have amazing curly fur (and whiskers!)

Satin – This is a very smooth and shiny coat.

Colours

Solid – Standard pattern

Banded – White band around the middle of the hamster
